Cheap products
Oslo 23. 05. 2007
We all buy products which are made in other countries. We always see products with a label on its backside, which say “Made in China”, or “Made in Taiwan.” This is an article about cheap products made in poor countries by poor children and that it is wrong by us to buy them so here in Norway.
All kind of people buy different things, which are made in other countries than you live in. Most poor countries like Taiwan, China, Korea and other countries produce much stuff from caps to different food. Mostly poor children in poor families work for their living and to get food on the table. They knit, embroider or make food. But what is the problem? The problem is not that countries buy stuff from poor countries, because in that way, they only let them into the world market. This is very important for every country in the world. But if the products are made by poor children, who work fifteen hours a day and only earn a dollar per hour, it is a problem. Many children get used by those who they’re working for. And this is wrong! That’s why we shouldn’t buy products made of poor children.
But how do we know the products are made by poor children? Not all products which say “Made in Taiwan” or “Made in Korea” are made by poor children. We don’t know who are and who aren’t. This is the problem! It’s right of us to let poor countries into the world market by buying their products. But of the products are made by children, who live a very tough life and only earn maybe a dollar per hour, it’s wrong of us to buy them. So the problem is that we never know how the products have been made.
I think this is a very tough and hard problem in today’s living. I think it’s wrong to buy these products, but right to let the poor countries into the world market. My advice is that organisations should take more responsibility and lead the poor countries in the right direction!
