Pellet ovens and bio -energy - The future
Oslo 23. 05. 2007
Global warming is a problem in constant growth. There are a lot of things you can do to reduce the amount of Co2 in the atmosphere. You can start by using a pellet-oven to warm up your house/cabin.
A pellet-oven looks like a normal oven, but instead of using oil, gas or other contaminating fuels you use small pieces of pellet. The kind of pellets normally used for warming up houses is wooden pellets. A pellet is usually a small, compressed, symmetrical and hard chunk of matter. In pellet-ovens you put the pellets in large amounts into the oven. You can have a single oven for one room or a central-heating system.
Pellet-ovens are “friendly” to the environment. In opposition to normal ovens pellet-ovens produce very small amounts of ashes. The heating time is very short so you don’t use too much energy. Pellets and other bio fuels are so called climax neutral heating, which means that they don’t contribute to the global-warming. The big advantage pellet-ovens have in opposition to normal ovens is the law amounts of Co2 it produces. Using a pellet-oven in your house can reduce your amount of Co2 with up till 50%.
Using a pellet-oven can also be very profitable economically. A pellet oven costs from 2000 to 4000 Euros. This is rather expensive, but after a while using it you can save money since pellets are cheaper than oil, gas or electricity. Pellet-ovens are long term solutions; they are friendly to the environment and to your economy.
Pellet-ovens aren’t the only “environment friendly” way to warm up your house. Pellets are only one bio energy. Bio energy is energy from the sun stored in the biomass through the photosynthesis. When you burn biomasses this energy is released as heat. Biomass comes mainly from plants and trees. Bio energy is for example wooden chip, straw, fast-growing wood, organic garbage, peat and fertilizer. Bio energy produces very small amounts of Co2 and is generally a very good alternative to normal fuels.
The conclusion is that pellet-ovens and bio energy are very good alternatives to what you normally use to warm up your house. If you want to do your part to help stop the global warming, start by using a pellet- oven.
