Interrupt a pregnancy: what to do?

We recently spoke a lot about life’s protection an the possibility to do an abortion. In Italy the law 194 of 1978 foresees that under some conditions a woman can interrupt her pregnancy.

When a couple wants to have a child and the woman is pregnant, it is certainly a wonderful new. But maybe this could be also a problem, like for example if the girl is too young, or it was a mistake, or worse if she was abused. And joy can become desperation! A lot of young girls died because of the voluntary interruption of pregnancy through illegal abortion. Today the law foresees the consent without risking the woman’s life. But you have to take in consideration that it isn’t a nice experience to lie and you have to remember that it should only be used in extreme cases and for serious reasons. Protection exists with contraceptives and they prevent any risk of being involved in such a situation.

But what can you do if it happens in any case?
I spoke with a gynecologist, doctor I. Franceschetti, who explained me what to do in certain situations:
You don’t have the menstrual cycle and you think that you are pregnant. In this case you can buy a pregnancy-test available at any pharmacy to make you sure.
If you are really pregnant, you have to speak with a gynecologist or with your doctor, but think about it before doing the wrong step.
If you decide to abort, speak with your boyfriend and also with your parents before.
Law foresees that it is possible to interrupt a pregnancy in the first 90 days (from the first day of your last menstrual cycle). Within this time you can go to a public hospital, because the private ones are not allowed to perform the operation. It is done at day hospital, in local or general anesthesia. The most used method is that of Karman that consists in the aspiration of the uterine contents with the “cleaning” of uterus walls. The use of the abortive pill RU148 is not allowed in Italy.

I asked some friends of mine what they think about it. Here are their opinion:

ISABELLE 16 years old
I think that girls shouldn’t interrupt a pregnancy, because it may happen that after some time you regret your decision, and so you have to fight with your consciousness. Think about it twice!

GIULIA 17 years old
I think that to have a child, if you want him, is a wonderful thing. But if someone is pregnant because she was abused, I think that she must have the right to interrupt the pregnancy, because it wasn’t her decision to have that child.

DEBORAH 20 years old
How can you think of killing a life that began like as the consequence of a wanted action? To abort means to stop life at its beginning. Women must be better informed about contraceptives. I would distribute them without having to pay for them!

ROBERTA 23 years old
It would be necessary to grant the right of abortion to women. I would like the RU148 pill to be made legal, because it’s better than surgery.

LUCA 21 years old
I think that abortion can be a possibility for a girl only when she’s really desperate, because she can’t keep the child or maybe because she’s the victim of sexual abuse. In case of a mistake of the couple, she has to speak with her partner because they have to decide together and if the girl wants to keep the baby, her boyfriend must help her!

FILOMENO 23 years old
I think that girls have to decide on their own because it is their life, but I don’t agree with abortion because life is the most important thing and so we cannot decide to kill anyone. If my girlfriend told me that she was pregnant, I would like her to keep the baby, and I would be always near her!
