useful or useless?
An easy inquiry to you all: if there is a question bothering you, where do you look for the answer?
An easy inquiry to you all: if there is a question bothering you, where do you look for the answer? And if you need a definition? An information about, for example, Kennedy’s life? Some time ago you would have said: “On a good Encyclopaedia, on books.” but now, I’m pretty sure, the most of you have had internet as the main “answer-giving source” in mind. But why?
Maybe because it is easier, faster and, why not, also cheaper than books or dictionaries.
We live in a reality where people, do not have time to reflect, where everything goes fast and the person who reaches his aim first is the best, sometimes it isn’t even important how he reaches it. Today I think, it becomes more and more uncommon to find someone who takes some time to think, and look up for the appropriate answers to his questions.
Very intelligent people understood that men and women, who are always in a hurry, need a committable mean, which can give us the searched answer in a span of seconds: the result has been the World Wide Web.
I don’t even think that the Internet always gives the right answer, often it gives only superficial responses, furthermore you have to pay attention because the Internet is free and everybody can access and say his opinion or write informative texts and put them online; this means that it can happen to find a not suitable explanation of what interests you.
I’m not totally against the internet, the opposie, I think it has been a big step forward for mankind and it can help a lot.
Thanks to computers we are able to chat with people of all over the world, to write emails and to receive the answer already after some minutes; from this point of view it can be very useful. It makes relationships from one part of the earth to the other, possible, therewith by reading blogs, watching videos, photos of people of different cultures we can realize that a Japanese, African, Chinese teenager is not different from an Italian or English, and I’m sure that this could be one way to make part of the struggles disappear, between, for example, western lies and eastern lies, struggles which are based especially on wrong ideas about people who look differently and behave in a different way.
On the other hand it is also a little bit the cause of many problems: girls who put censured photos online, teenagers who make videos while they hit a disabled kid etc. Everybody can watch this material and unfortunately a lot of teenagers, then, think that these actions are heroic and copy them.
Today the internet is becoming also a problem for society.
Besides that there are in the world computer-addicted people and this number is increasing, this addiction counts to the “new-addictions” like the game of chance. This means that the computer, Internet- chatting but also video games are the “new drugs”. Many doctors and psychologists say that the excessive use of a computer can destroy a person outside, causing eye dysfunctions etc. but especially “inside”: there are people who sit down in front of the computer each day and don’t goes out, they think that the computer world is the only one.
Finally, I would like to say that I think that computers are very useful but it depends on what use we make of them. They can make life easier, if we don’t use them too much and if we use them with a purpose, but they can be negative and dangerous if we use them excessively and to spread inappropriate material.
