Global Warming: the truth or a fiction
Příbor 21. 05. 2009
Andsel Adams :"It is horrifying that we have to fight our own government to save the environment".
To introduce my topic I have chosen the quotation by Andsel Adams above. I share this point of view that the global problem is horrifying. Although there is also some truth in the second part, because some big companies and some countries would like to persuade the rest of us that global warming is a fiction. On the other hand, the voices of eco-protesters like Greenpeace can let us learn that global warming is a reality and very dangerous. As a result people have to change their lifestyle.
What do common people think? People need to express their opinion on this important issue. That is why I have chosen this as the topic for my article.
To begin with, I would like to make a short comparison. When the first dinosaurs lived on the Earth, there was more CO2 in the atmosphere than in 2008. Nowadays there is 30 % more CO2 gas in the atmosphere than in the 19th century. To be more speficic, after the industrial revolution began the CO2 levels started to rise. Eco-protesters say that the increase in the production CO2 has a bad effect on weather and the environment, such as the melting of glaciers and the ice-caps.
On the other hand, some companies and countries say that this is a natural Earth process. On top of that some companies don´t believe or don´t want to believe that humans can speed up the production of CO2 and consequently to cause such a catastrophe. While one group of companies express their opinion, other companies say exactly the opposite. Nevertheless, the best way is to find an unified attitude for reducing the threat of global warming.
But let's go back to my earlier question --- what do ordinary people think? They are aware of this topical issue and, certainly, environmental education in the media has played a large part for that , there is no doubt that the protection of environment has become a daily part of our lives: labelled containers are put into the correct bins, dangerous waste such as old fridges and televisions is being recycled, and the possibility of using alternative energy ( from the sun, the wind, rivers or tides) isn´t only a theory. Even using gas heating instead of burning brown coal will help slightly. To add to that, I wouldn't hesitate to say that many individuals could be a good example for some companies.
In conclusion, I would like to stress that one person can´t save the environment, but if only everybody who reads this article tries to protect it, then we can do an awful lot to help save the environment for ourselves and at the same time for future generations.
