Why are drama classes considered for something not cool?

Sofia 9. 04. 2009

I have been asking myself this question for about a month. Mainly because of all that films, in which drama classes are for losers.

Personally I visit such classes. And I can say it’s quite cool. Maybe it’s because of the different way of work here in Bulgaria: it has nothing to do with school, we’re just 10 teens having fun on the stage. We meet every Saturday and rehearse for 3-4 hours, than we go to different festivals and meet other people like us.
In my opinion most of those who think that drama classes are rubbish want to become superstars. But man, how do you think that will happen? While you’re watching TV? Nope… it won’t!
What’s more these classes are not only for people willing to become actors one day. I’m not quite sure that I want to do anything like that after school (but this is because of so many Bulgarian reasons that I may write another article about). The main idea of the Saturdays is to have fun, to meet my friends, to stop thinking about school.
Last but not least there’s one more thing that theatre gives you – confidence. You are sad, you have no boyfriend, and you’re arguing with your family…. you are what Germans call Tar Bird. But suddenly you remember that sunny day, when you made 100-200 people laugh… or cry. You feel much better, don’t you?
In conclusion I can recommend you to find out where the nearest drama class is and just to see what it looks like… I can’t be 100% sure that it’s like our classes, but at least you will have given them a chance. And who knows, maybe will meet each other on a festival one day!
